This will be the 55th edition, the tournament have been running for 55 consecutive years. Is held on the
second weekend of September, during our national holidays, this year should be on the 13 & 14 of
The tournament is organized by the Fishing Lodges, the Mayor’s office, INTUR, and corporate sponsor, and
is open to all angler of the world. Most people bring their own boat crossing lake Nicaragua and from Costa
Rican via Rio Frio river, or from Sarapiqui. then on the San Juan River.
People who don’t own a boat can rent one with captain for the duration of the tournament, prices are
reasonable for such an event, you may find boats at San Carlos, Boca de Sabalos and el Castillo.
Fish and stay at the Montecristo River Lodge the famous ¨ Tarpon Cap¨ you may come in your own boat or
get one of our all-inclusive fishing packages. We can also help you rent a local boat, but you must bring your
The fishing area is from the Solentiname Island on Lake Nicaragua, into the Rio San Juan River, up to the
rapids at El Castillo, about 60 km of river, were you can fish from sun rise to sunset for two full days,
competing for the main trophy, ¨ The Silver King ¨,or Tarpon, the other species of snook, raimbow bass,
mojarras, machacas and roncadores.
Traditionaly the weigh stations are located at Solentiname, San Carlos, Boca de Sabalos and El Castillo.
